Indian boxer Vikas Krishan began his Olympic campaign on a winning note by beating the United States' Charles Conwell 3-0 in their middleweight category (75kg) round of 32 match. The 24-year-old did not have to sweat it out and made quick work of his opponent. He also stayed ahead on the judges' card for the entire match.
Seeded seventh in the middleweight draw, Krishnan was quick on his feet and kept throwing in crucial punches whenever required to stay ahead against his 18-year-old opponent, who was making his debut in the mega-event. Krishnan, a two-time Olympian and quarter-finalist at the London Games in 2012, made sure he did not do anything rash and had a cool head all through the three-round bout.
