Jitu Rai and Prakash Nanjappa were eliminated at the qualification stage of the men's 50m pistol event at the Olympic Shooting Centre on Wednesday. Rai finished 12th with an overall score of 554, while Nanjappa finished 25th with an overall score of 547.

Rai's elimination was tough as the 28-year-old seemed in fine fettle. He shot 92 and 95 in the first two series before stuttering in the third and scoring 90. He fought back with 94 and 95 in the fourth and fifth series and seemed set to qualify for the final.

However, some bad shooting in the last series meant he dropped out of the top eight. Rai finished with 88 in the last series to finish an overall 12th.

Nanjappa never seemed in contention for a place in the finals after shooting 85 in the first series and following it up with 90 in the second. He improved his showing marginally, scoring 91, 93, 95 and 93 in the next four series but his poor start meant he finished 25th at the end.
