The Indian women’s hockey team were thrashed 6-1 by Australia in their third group stage encounter on Wednesday. The Australians, who lost their first two games to Great Britain and Argentina, fired on all cylinders and were clinical in demolishing India.

The floodgates opened early with Kathryn Slattery scoring in the fifth minute. Georgina Morgan, Jane Claxton and Georgina Parker also scored with Jodie Kenny scoring two goals at the end as India wilted under Australia's aggressive approach. India pulled one back in the last quarter thanks to Anuradha Devi's effort in the 60th minute.

Earlier, the team fell short against Great Britain losing 0-3 on Monday and drew with Japan 2-2 in their opening encounter. India are now ranked last in Group B with one point, with the top four in each group progressing to the quarter-finals.
