Nico Rosberg finally took full advantage of winning pole position as he started and finished the Belgium Grand Prix in first position. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, who had won four races in a row going into this one, was slapped with a 55-place grid penalty for fitting three new engines at Spa, but still drove remarkably well to finish third, behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo on the podium. Force India's Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez finished fourth and fifth respectively.

With his sixth win of the season, Rosberg closed the gap between him and Hamilton to 10 points. It was also the German’s first win on this track, after having finished second in the last two years. However, the driver of the race was still Hamilton, who started in the last row and dodged a number of mishaps including a red flag to finish on the podium.
