A Diego Costa overhead kick saw Chelsea come back from behind and draw 2-2 with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in Wales on Sunday. Chelsea dominated the match and had 28 shots on goal, but their profligacy meant that the Londoners had to go home with a share of the spoils as they dropped their first points under Conte to lie second in the table, with 10 points from four matches, behind Manchester City.
The Blues took an early lead as a poor clearance from Swansea centre-back Federico Fernandez landed at the feet of Oscar, who laid it off for Costa and the Spaniard finished it with aplomb, guiding his first-time kick into the corner of the net, giving custodian Lukasz Fabianski no chance with the finish.
Costa had another chance to make it 2-0 before the break as a John Terry flick-on from a corner evaded everybody in the Swansea box, but the Chelsea striker, who reached it first, could not make it count as he put it wide bizarrely, from two yards out.
The second half started in pretty much the same way that the first did – Chelsea dominating while Swansea failed to fashion any clear-cut openings. It was left to substitute Modou Borrow to put in a delightful cross for Gylfi Sigurdsson, who raced clear only to be brought down by Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois inside the penalty box.
Sigurdsson scored from the ensuing penalty to become Swansea's all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League with 25 goals, surpassing Wilfred Bony's record. Three minutes later, Gary Cahill was caught dawdling with the ball as Leroy Fer dispossessed the defender and found himself one-on-one with the keeper, who got a hand to it, but was unable to stop the ball crossing the line as Swansea suddenly looked on course for a smash-and-grab victory over Antonio Conte's men. Replays seemed to indicate that Fer had fouled Cahill.
But it was that man Costa again who would break Welsh hearts as Chelsea piled on the pressure in the dying minutes. Nine minutes from time, Branislav Ivanovic's shot would loop up in the air, only to drop to Costa who made no mistake with an overhead kick from close range, which went in after a deflection off a Swansea player.
