India's 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev lashed out at a reporter on Tuesday in Mumbai over questions about Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming Kabaddi World Cup in October which is slated to be held in Ahmedabad.

Dev was the chief guest at a press conference in the city where the Indian squad for the tournament was announced.

Pakistan's participation in the tournament still remains in doubt and when asked a question concerning that topic, Kapil Dev shot back, questioning the reporter whether it was "necessary to raise this question at this point in time", in a reference to heightened tensions between the two neighbours after the Uri attack in Kashmir on Sunday where 18 Indian soldiers were killed.

"If you are a Hindustani, you should not ask the question at all. Is it the time to ask this question?," continued Dev. "There are certain decisions best taken by the Government. If the Government tells us to jump into the well, we will."

India have won all the five Kabaddi World Cups held so far.
