The Board of Control for Cricket in India has asked the International Cricket Council not to club India and Pakistan in the same group in international tournaments. The board made its decision on a day when a Special General Meeting to discuss the various demands of the Lodha committee was adjourned because of technical reasons.
BCCI president Anurag Thakur told PTI that that the decision was made "in view of the public sentiment in the country", referring to the strained relations between the two countries following the terror strike on Uri and India's retaliation across the Line of Control.
Thakur added that BCCI was "keeping in mind" the government's decision to "isolate Pakistan". The BCCI chief also specified that the countries would still have to play each other if they clash in the knockout stages or the final of a tournament. India and Pakistan faced off twice earlier this year – in the Asia Cup and the World T20, which were multi-team events.
A few days ago, Thakur had slammed the door on India-Pakistan bilateral ties, calling Pakistan a "sponsor of terrorism".
