On Thursday, South Africa yet again entered the record books after they completed the second-highest run chase in One Day International history as they beat Australia to clinch the five-match series 3-0. The Australians were off to a flier with centuries by David Warner and Steve Smith taking the world champions to 371-6 at Kingsmead, Durban.

However, with momentum on their side, the Protes fancied their chances to clinch the series. Opener Quinton de Kock slammed a quickfire 70 off just 49 and provided a clear indication of the Proteas' mindset. Every batsman chipped in with crucial runs until it was time for David Miller to come at the crease.

After failing in the first two One Day Internationals, Miller proved his worth with an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 107 with Andile Phehlukwayo (42 not out) that saw the team home. Miller finished with an unbeaten 118 in just 79 balls in a stunning ODI knock.

The highest successful One Day International run chase was also made by South Africa, who hit 438-9 against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006. Eight of the top 10 successful ODI run chases have now been achieved against Australia.
