Put big partnerships and Mumbai together, every once in a while, one happens to stumble upon huge records. Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne broke a 69-year-old record to amass an unbeaten 594-run partnership. Gugale and Bawne's batting marathon, which lasted for two days, is now the highest partnership in Ranji Trophy history.

Gugale and Bawne's record-breaking feat

Delhi's attack was average but not a poor one. After Navdeep Saini's two early breakthroughs on day one, not many would have imagined what would follow at the Wankhede Stadium.

Maharashtra skipper Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne broke a record that stood for 69 years, when Vijay Hazare and Gul Mahomed had slammed a 577-run stand for Baroda against Holkar in 1947. Gugale and Bawne finished at an unbeaten 594 before sending Delhi out to bat in the final session of the day's play.

Ishwar Pandey steamrolls Punjab

Madhya Pradesh pacer Ishwar Pandey had his finest hour in domestic cricket when he triggered a stunning collapse in the Punjab ranks. On day one, MP were picked apart by Yuvraj Singh and Gurkeerat Singh, who got centuries each. Gurkeerat Singh fell early, and wickets fell in a heap as Punjab lost their last seven wickets for just 27 runs. Ishwar Pandey finished with figures of 8/102.

Punjab smarted from their inexplicable collapse to send half of the MP side back to the pavilion. Manpreet Gony picked up four of the five wickets that fell before the close of play.

Dinda, Manoj Tiwary shine for Bengal

After Abhimanyu Easwaran's terrific hundred on day one, Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary followed suit with a three-figure score. Kuldeep Yadav then ran through the Bengal line-up in no time to end up with a five-wicket haul.

Uttar Pradesh continued to struggle with the bat after their shock defeat to Madhya Pradesh, with Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda scalping two wickets. Umang Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan's handy knocks took them to safety at the close of play, but they still find themselves a humongous 347 runs behind.

Herwadkar slams century

Mumbai opener Akhil Herwadkar's feats last year were overshadowed by the colossal display of Shreyas Iyer. The defending champions continued to be rusty on day two, but opener Herwadkar further enhanced his reputation with a cracking century. Suryakumar Yadav gave him good support, scoring a half-century, to bail Mumbai out from a sticky situation – the duo added 81 for the the third wicket.

Mumbai were within touching distance of Baroda's total of 306 at the close of play on day two in Delhi.

Tamil Nadu finally come good with the bat

Tamil Nadu skipper Abhinav Mukund was just two shy of a century on day two against Railways in what was a much improved batting display from his side after three consecutive failures so far in the Ranji Trophy. A fine collective effort from the Tamil Nadu bowlers helped them get back in the contest after being bundled out for just 121 on day one.

Mukund and Co. wrestled back the advantage, and are now sitting pretty, being ahead by 109 runs with nine wickets in hand.
