England’s Ben Stokes produced a stellar all-round display as his side ended day three of the first Test against Bangladesh with a lead of 273 runs in the second innings at Chittagong. Stokes’s spell of 3/9 in the morning saw Bangladesh being bowled out for 248, after losing 5/27 in 12 overs to concede a first-innings lead of 45. England then started on the wrong foot as they went for lunch at 28/3.
However, Stokes played an inspiring innings of 85, putting on a 127-run partnership with Jonny Bairstow (47), as England ended the day at 228/8. Shakib Al Hasan was the star for Bangladesh as he took 5/79 with the ball. The match is evenly poised and with two days of play left, but England will feel they have the upper hand. England have won all eight of their previous encounters against the Tigers.
