England beat Bangladesh by 22 runs in the first Test match in Chittagong on Monday. The tourists needed just 21 balls to bag the two remaining Bangladeshi wickets, after day five began with the hosts needing only 33 runs to win.
It was Ben Stokes, once again, who came to England’s rescue as he took both the wickets in one over. Stokes trapped Taijul Islam leg-before, a decision that went England’s way after using the Decision Review System. Last man Shaiful Islam then stayed at the crease for just two deliveries, as he too was given out LBW, a decision which Bangladesh reviewed in desperation and did not succeed.
Sabbir Rahman remained unbeaten on 64 as he saw his side crumble under pressure. It was an enthralling Test match that saw both the sides battling it out for a win. The second Test will begin on October 28 in Dhaka and Bangladesh will hope to make a strong comeback.
