PV Sindhu breezed through to the second round of the French Open after downing Hong Kong's Pui Yin Yip 21-9, 29-27 in Paris on Wednesday. Sindhu, who is seeded sixth, will face the winner between China's Bingjiao He and Denmark's Mette Poulsen in the next round in what is only her second tournament after clinching the silver medal in the Rio Olympics. The 21-year-old Indian had bowed out of the second round of the Denmark Open last week.

In the men's draw, HS Pronnoy also booked a place in the last 16 of the tournament, ousting Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana 21-16, 21-18 to set up a clash with Taiwan's Tien Chen Chou on Thursday. Ajay Jayaram, though, crashed out after losing to Indonesia's Ginting Anthony 22-20, 10-21, 18-21 in the first round.
