South African pacer Dale Steyn was ruled of the ongoing Test series in Australia after scans revealed a fracture to a bone in his right shoulder. The injury occurred during day two of the first Test in Perth after Steyn bowled a delivery in the 13th over. Steyn was sent to hospital for scans and treatment after which the damage of the injury was revealed. This was after he took the first wicket of the morning, that of David Warner, who was dismissed following a 158-run opening stand with Shaun Marsh.

Last December, Steyn had broken his shoulder while surfing and missed the majority of the home series against England. Steyn has taken 417 Test wickets in 85 matches, four short of overhauling Shaun Pollock (421 in 108 games) for the South African record.
