The Board of Control for Cricket in India was granted permission to release Rs 58.66 lakh by the Supreme Court to host the first India-England Test match in Rajkot, beginning on Wednesday. The announcement from the apex court comes a day before the start of the Test match, which will also be the first time that the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium will be hosting a five-day game.
In the wake of the ongoing tussle between the BCCI and the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha committee, the Indian board was provisionally stopped from disbursing cash to the state associations. The BCCI has also been asked to unequivocally accept all the recommendations approved by the Supreme Court.
The BCCI, earlier in the day, had requested the Supreme Court for the release of funds, stating that the Test match could also be cancelled without the money. The court had ordered two banks to freeze transactions made by the BCCI to state associations last month.
