The Indian women’s team beat their West Indies counterparts by five wickets to win the second One-Day International at Vijayawada on Sunday. With this win, India clinched the three-match ODI series after winning the first ODI in Thursday as well.
Mithali Raj won the toss for India as they opted to field first. India were on target with Jhulan Goswami and Ekta Bisht taking two wickets apiece. Shikha Pandey and Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up one wicket each as West Indies failed to reach a fighting target and finished on 153/7 in their overs. For the visitors, Deandra Dottin scored a gutsy 63 featured with one six and six fours.
India got off to shocking start as Thirush Kamini was given out for obstructing the field when she was just two. However, Smriti Mandhana (44) and Deepti Sharma (32) stabilised the innings before the duo were out on 111/3. In came skipper Raj and along with Harmanpreet Kaur to take India home.
Kaur was dismissed soon after for 8. However, Raj played an exceptional innings of 45 runs to take India closer to the target. She smashed one towering six and six boundaries in her 51-ball knock.
In the end, Veda Krishnamurthy and Shikha Pandey took India home. India had previously won the first ODI by six wickets on Thursday. India next face West Indies on Wednesday in the final ODI.
