India were left holding on to dear life as the first Test in Rajkot ended in a draw, but not before England gave India a nasty scare. When play was called off, India finished at 172/6.

Resuming at 49/2, Virat Kohli never really looked up for the chase of 310 but India seemed to be in the mood to keep England in the hunt. England’s spinners started making things happen as Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali got Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane in successive overs.

Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin thought they had taken India to safety but with just half an hour to go, Ashwin holed out to Joe Root at extra cover giving Ansari a wicket. It became even more tense for India as Wriddhiman Saha hit one straight back to Rashid to leave India reeling at 132/6.

An excited England crowded around the batsman with close-in fielders and threw all they could at Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja who managed to weather the storm and even get some quick boundaries. Kohli remained unbeaten on 49, his battling knock ensuring that India would leave Rajkot with the Test series still 0-0.
