Barcelona qualified for the Round of 16 as group C winners as they notched up a routine 2-0 win over Celtic in Scotland courtesy of Lionel Messi’s 91st and 92nd Champions League goals.

The Argentine took his tally in this season’s competition to 7 as Barcelona took full advantage of Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany to win the group.

Gladbach started well and had City on the back foot early in the game as Lars Stindl won his aerial challenge with John Stones and charged through on goal, where the ball fell kindly to Raffael who poked his shot beyond Raheem Sterling, giving Claudio Bravo no chance.

Sterling made amends as his pass found Kevin de Bruyne with space to cross and the Belgian’s delivery was met by David Silva on the slide to finish it from close range and level things up on the night.

Both teams ended with 10 men as Stindl was dismissed early in the second half, picking up his second yellow card on the night while the same fate befell Fernandinho as both teams played out the second half without further incident.

City sealed progress to the next round as group runners-up, draws against Celtic and Gladbach costing them dearly while the German side confirmed a place in the Europa League Round of 32.

In Group D, Atletico clinched top spot and maintained a 100% record, courtesy of goals from Kevin Gameiro and Antoine Griezmann as the Rojiblancos won 2-0 against PSV Eindhoven.

Their win meant that Bayern, who lost 3-2 to FK Rostov in the early kick-off, cannot catch them at the top of the table. It was a superb end-to-end game in Russia as Rostov recorded their first ever victory in the Champions League.

Bayern took the lead through Douglas Costa only for Rostov to hit back through Serdar Azmoun and Poloz, as Bayern equalised through Juan Bernat. Christian Noboa’s wonderful free-kick gave Manuel Neuer no chance, setting up a famous victory for the Russians.
