Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard announced his retirement from football on Thursday, pulling down the curtains on a glittering career. The 36-year-old is widely regarded as one of the greatest English players of all-time.
Gerrard came through the youth ranks at Liverpool and remained at the club till 2015, after which he decided to move to the United States. The all-action central midfielder played for LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.
Gerrard’s leadership qualities and his ability to play in a number of position behind the forward was a standout feature, and also captained England in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. Gerrard won all major domestic and European trophies for his boyhood club except the league title, which he came close to winning in 2014.
The Liverpudlian was linked to taking over managerial duties for English League one side MK Dons over the past week. Gerrard stated that the offer had come too early in his career.
