A topsy-turvy day in the Premier League saw the top spot change hands three times as both Manchester City and Liverpool registered wins before Chelsea won at the Bridge to end Tottenham’s unbeaten run at 12.

Liverpool scored twice late in the second half at Anfield to claim a 2-0 win over Sunderland and take the top spot. Manchester City had earlier taken over the number one position after beating Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor.

Both teams lie on 30 points, but Liverpool have their noses in front with a superior goal difference.

A game of two halves

Chelsea won their seventh league game on the bounce as they came from behind to defeat Mauricio Pochettino’s men, keeping their one point lead at the top of the table intact.

Christian Eriksen scored early for Spurs as Chelsea’s 551-minute run without conceding a goal came to an end; the Dane unleashing a fierce shot with his left, giving Thibaut Courtois no chance. Tottenham had 10 attempts in the first half and closed the Blues down effectively, frustrating Antonio Conte’s men.

Chelsea then bagged a goal out of nowhere as Pedro collected Nemanja Matic’s turn, then swivelled to take a shot which sailed into the far corner of the net, leaving Hugo Lloris grasping at thin air. Victor Moses got the winner early in the second half as he ran onto Diego Costa’s low pass and smashed it against Lloris, which ricocheted off Jan Vertonghen before going in.

Liverpool’s nervy win

Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0, but face a possibility of playing without Philippe Coutinho for a few games, after the star forward was stretchered off at Anfield.

The Brazillian clutched his ankle after a challenge from Didier Ndong late in a first half. Liverpool controlled 80 per cent of the possession in the first half but failed to create any clear cut chances.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side continued to press, as Coutinho’s replacement Divock Origi found the net in the 75th minute.

In stoppage time, Liverpool won a penalty as Sadio Mane was fouled in the box. James Milner neatly converted the spot-kick to make this Liverpool’s 14th game unbeaten in all competitions.

Aguero double hands City win

Sergio Aguero scored twice as Manchester City came back from a goal down to earn a hard-fought win at Burnley.

The home side took the lead in the 14th minute. The goal came about after City defender Nicolas Otamendi headed a clearance straight to Burnley’s Dean Marney, who volleyed in from 25 yards.

Aguero equalised in the 37th minute. City broke the deadlock in the 60th minute as a Fernandinho cross hit Aguero and went in.

Goal fest at Swansea

Swansea’s Fernando Llorente scored twice in stoppage time to hand his side a victory over Crystal Palace in a thrilling encounter that saw nine goals being scored at the Liberty stadium.

As many as seven goals were scored in the second half, four of which came in a spell of 11 minutes.

Palace were at one time were trailing 1-3, but fought back to make it 4-3. But then Llorente came on as a substitute and reversed his team’s fortunes with two late goals.
