India came from a goal down in the first quarter to belt England 5-3 at Lucknow on Saturday to register their second win of the competition and top Pool D with six points. India play their final group game against South Africa on December 12.

The Indians were left stunned early in the game as Jack Glee put his side ahead just 10 minutes into the game. India took their time to settle into the contest and Parvinder Singh equalised for the hosts with just five minutes left to the end of the first half.

India surged ahead in the game through a field goal from Armaan Qureshi, whose neat strike found the net. India came out guns blazing on the other side of the break, regularly attacking the English circle and got two goals in quick succession.

England’s poor discipline cost them again and handed yet another penalty corner – Harmanpreet Singh made it 3-1 for India. Two minutes into the final quarter, Simranjeet Singh tripled his side’s advantage with a field goal.

England had a chance to get back in the game but made a mess of their penalty corner attempt, much like India in the first quarter. At the other end, Varun Kumar made it 5-1 for India.

England scored twice in the closing stages of the game through Will Calnan and Edward Horler to send some panic in the Indian ranks but it only reduced the deficit.

Brief scores:

India 5 (Parvinder Singh, Armaan Qureshi, Harmanpreet Singh, Simranjeet Singh, Varun Kumar) beat England 3 (Jack Clee, Will Calnan, Edward Horler)
