Injured pacer Mohammed Shami and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha will take no further part in the ongoing India-England Test series, PTI reported.
The duo, who were left out of the playing XI for the fourth Test underway in Mumbai due to injury, have now also been ruled out from the fifth and final Test to be held in Chennai from December 16 to 20.
“BCCI medical team confirms that Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha are ruled out of the fifth Test of the Paytm Test Series-2016 starting on December 16, 2016, against England in Chennai,” BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a statement.
Shami, who played the first three Tests, had been struggling with a knee injury since the first game in Rajkot. The BCCI stated that Shami has been advised rest and rehabilitation and will undergo a recovery programme at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Saha too is undergoing a rehabilitation programme at the NCA for a hamstring tear picked up during the second Test in Visakhapatnam.
Parthiv Patel has been keeping wickets in place of Saha, while pacer Shardul Thakur was included in the squad as back-up for Shami.
