Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his West Indian counterpart Carlos Brathwaite differed in their assessment of the playing conditions at the Central Brownard Regional Park stadium in Florida, after the second Twenty20 International between the two teams was abandoned following rain.

Though a thunderstorm only struck for 15 minutes during the match, the officials were not satisfied with the condition of the outfield and called play off. Brathwaite concurred with their view, calling the conditions "unsafe", according to ESPNCricinfo. The West Indian captain indicated a few portions close to the bowler's run-up, which he felt were a cause for concern.

However, Dhoni disagreed with Brathwaite's assessment and said that he had played under "worse conditions" during his career, providing the example of India's ODI series against England in 2011, which was also affected by rain. Dhoni accepted that there was an area of concern close to the bowler's run-ups, but disagreed with Brathwaite that it was a "big concern". In Dhoni's words, "There is no Shoaib Akhtar in their team," indicating that the areas of concern were far away from the run-ups of the West Indian bowlers.

The match in question also began 40 minutes late because of a technical delay at the broadcaster's end. West Indies won the series 1-0 by virtue of their one-run victory in the first T20I.
