Vijender Singh defended the WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight championship in style, taking only three rounds out of 10 against Tanzania’s Francis Cheka to win through a knockout in New Delhi. With the win, the 2008 Olympic medal winner completed his eighth straight win in his Pro Boxing career.
Singh adopted a cautious approach in the first round, choosing to see out his opponent’s punches as Cheka was on the front foot throughout. However, Singh did manage to land three punches to Cheka’s one, ending the round with a strong right hand.
Singh was more in his element in this second round, hammering a couple of strong jabs with his right across Cheka’s face. The Indian pugilist landed a total of seven punches during the round.
Singh moved from strength to strength in the third round, landing a series of punches with his hook, forcing Cheka to withdraw midway and complete his eighth consecutive win in professional boxing.
