Fourteen-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal recruited fellow Mallorcan and Spaniard Carlos Moya as a part of his coaching setup on Saturday.
Moya, another former world no.1 had previously coached Canadian Milos Raonic earlier in the year, helping him achieve a career-best ranking No. 3 behind Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic.
Nadal suffered with a spate of injuries over the past year, which saw his WTA ranking slip to ninth. The 30-year-old was forced to withdraw midway through the French Open, which he won nine times in his career, and withdrew from Wimbledon.
Nadal also suffered a premature exit in the US Open in the fourth round by Frenchman Lucas Pouille, making it the first year since 2004 that Nadal failed to reach the quarter-final of a Grand Slam. The highest point for Nadal in the year was winning the doubles gold medal with Marc Lopez in the Rio Olympics.
Nadal is slated to begin the 2017 season in the Brisbane international.
