Shreyas Iyer stroked an unbeaten 85 to keep India ‘A’ afloat as Australia maintained their dominance after declaring on 469/7 on day two of their three-day warm-up game at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
Chasing Australia’s daunting total, India ‘A’ got off to a shaky start losing opener Akhil Herwadkar off Nathan Lyon with just 19 on the board. Lyon along with medium-pacer Jackson Bird did not let the pressure ebb, scalping two wickets apiece as India’s middle-order failed to turn up.
Iyer though was the lone source of resistance in the line-up, and took the attack to the Australians with a knock that included five sixes and seven boundaries. His effort saw India reach 176/4 at stumps.
Earlier, resuming on 327/5, Australia batted solidly with Mitchell Marsh (75) and Matthew Wade (64) stitching together a 129-run partnership to help their side declare on a commanding total.
