The second session of the second day of Pune Test saw a stunning collapse as India were dismissed for a paltry 105, conceding a potentially match-deciding lead of 155 runs. India went for lunch as 70/3 and were all out soon after as nine wickets (seven India, two Australian) fell in a single session. Steeve O’Keefe was the chief architect of distraction as he snapped six wickets in 24 balls.

India’s worst ever collapse
- India went from 94/4 to 105 all out in a span of less than ten overs.
- India lost 7 wickets for only 11 runs in their worst ever collapse in Test cricket. The previous record was 18 runs in Christchurch in 1989-90.
- The last time India lost 6 wickets in less than 100 runs in the first innings at home was against South Africa in 2008 at Ahmedabad.
- 105 is India’s lowest score at home since the 76 all out against South Africa in 2008.
- KL Rahul, who top scored with 64, perhaps got carried away a little and from that point on, the procession began as one batsman after another made his way to the pavilion. The second-highest scorer was Rahane with 13 runs. Murali Vijay is the only other batsman to have reached the double figure mark with 10.
Kohli ducks out
Before the massive collapse though, there was plenty of drama as Mitchell Starc got two wickets in 4 balls. India’s top batsmen, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli were dismissed in a double-wicket-maiden. As strange as it may sound, Virat Kohli got out on a duck as he chased a wide one and only ended up edging it to the slips.
- This was Kohli’s first Test duck in India.
- Kohli hasn’t scored a duck in after 45 innings, since August 2014, against England at Old Trafford,
- This was Kohli’s only fifth duck in Test cricket.
