Though there were significant gains elsewhere in the Association of Tennis Professionals world rankings, Andy Murray held on to the top spot ahead of rival Novak Djokovic in the latest list released on Monday. Both players had suffered early exits in the recently concluded Australian Open.
Murray first reached the summit on November 7 and has since gone on to preserve his lead with 11,540 points. Djokovic, at second, has 9,735 points followed by Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka.
Despite winning his 18th major in Melbourne, former world No.1 Roger Federer slipped to the 10th place with 3,260 points. Frenchman Jo-Wilfred Tsonga leaped four places to go seventh after cruising to his third Open 13 Marseille title on Sunday. Spanish ace Rafael Nadal is at sixth spot with 4,115 points.
