When it comes to Indian cricket fans, “failure” and “Virat Kohli” are two words that just don’t get along. Kohli doesn’t follow normality. He’s scored four double centuries this year and that’s already this year. He’s invincible, right?

Except till now.

Kohli was dismissed for just 12 in the first innings against Australia in the second Test at Bengaluru on Saturday. This follows a double-failure in Pune where he scored a duck and 12. More than that, the manner of his dismissal raised eyebrows. Kohli left a straight ball from off-spinner Nathan Lyon which thudded into his pad and he was given out leg-before-wicket. Then to add insult to injury, he wasted a review on it.

And of course, the jokes started pouring in.

There, though, was some consternation from quarters about what exactly had happened to India’s best batsman, by far.
