Misbah-ul-Haq decided to stay on as Pakistan captain, putting an end to widespread speculations about his future post a disastrous Australia tour, which saw his side slump to a 0-3 whitewash, ESPNCricinfo reported.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan, on Monday, accepted the 42-year-old’s decision to lead his side during the upcoming tour of West Indies. The board also named Twenty20 International skipper Sarfraz Ahmed as the vice-captain of the side. Pakistan will play three Tests against the Windies during April and May.
Misbah stoked questions over his future after returning from New Zealand and Australia, which saw Pakistan lose five straight Tests. He also stated that he would take a decision on his future at the end of the Pakistan Super League.
“Misbah-ul-Haq has conveyed to the Chairman [of] PCB his desire to continue as captain of the Pakistan Test team,” the PCB said in a statement. “Accordingly, the Chairman has approved his appointment for the upcoming West Indies Test series. The Chairman has also approved appointment of Sarfraz Ahmed as vice-captain of the Pakistan Test team,” PCB said.
The report added that the PCB was mulling over the idea of having one captain across formats before Misbah expressed his wish to stay on as the captain of the five-day format.
