World No 1 and two-time former champion, Andy Murray on Saturday pulled out of the upcoming Miami Open citing an injury to his right elbow.

In his official statement released to the tournament, Murray said, “Sadly, due to a right elbow injury, I won’t be playing in Miami.” The 29-year-old also mentioned that he was keen to make a comeback during the season on clay, beginning right after the ATP Masters in Miami. “The focus is now on getting ready for the clay season.”

Novak Djokovic too unconfirmed to play in Miami
Murray’s withdrawal comes even as doubts surround World No 2 and three-time defending champion, Novak Djokovic’s participation in the tournament. The Serbian is said to be troubled with a right elbow injury as well.
While, Djokovic’s withdrawal would have widened the gap in the rankings between Murray and him, following the former’s decision, the tussle between them narrows down to the clay season, where both have a huge chunk of points to defend.
