I-league club Mumbai FC appointed Oscar Bruzon as the new coach for the remainder of the season, reported Times of India. Lying at the bottom of the table and with four matches to go, the Spaniard will replace Santosh Kashyap, who was sacked last week.

Bruzon resigned as assistant coach of RCD Mallorca in the Spanish Segunda Division to take the job. Bruzon has coached Sporting Goa from 2012-14 and was assistant coach of Indian Super League (ISL) team Mumbai City FC in the 2015-2016 season. However, he quit midway through the season after reportedly falling out with then player-coach and former Chelsea star Nicolas Anelka.

Mumbai FC had sacked Kashyap after 12 winless games. They currently lie on 10 points from 14 matches and are on the verge of being relegated.

The management wanted an experienced coach to see that the club escapes relegation and hence signed Bruzon, the report added. Former Mumbai coach David Booth and former Salgaocar manager Karim Bencherifa were also in the fray.

“Oscar is a great coach. Though he was the assistant coach at Mumbai City, the team used to employ his tactics. The Mumbai FC management was willing to spare no expense to get a good coach, and they are very happy to have signed Bruzon,“ the source told TOI.

Bruzon’s first game in charge will see Mumbai FC face Churchill on April 8 at Cooperage Stadium.
