India’s Joshna Chinappa lost to World No 3 Raneem El Welily of Egypt in round two of the British Open Squash championship on Thursday. Chinappa went down fighting against the Egyptian 8-11, 7-11, 7-11. Joshna had beaten the Egyptian in 2015 in the Qatar Classic. However, Chinappa was outclassed in the final two games of the match after winning the first game 8-11.

The match was completed in 27 minutes as Welily upped the ante in the second to win the game 7-11. She replicated the same form in the third game to wrap up the match and progress to the next round.

Chinappa wasthe only Indian to progress to round two after she beat former world No 1 Rachael Grinham of Australia. Compatriot Dipika Pallikal lost to world No 5 Laura Massaro of England in the first round.

In the men’s draw, Saurav Ghosal lost to Alan Clyne Scotland in the qualification round.
