India’s ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar underwent surgery in Mumbai on Sunday after injuring herself during a national camp at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, The Times of India reported.

The report stated that Karmakar injured herself while practicing Handspring Rudi, a type of vault, when she ended up hurting knee ligament. She was flown down to Mumbai immediately where she received treatment from renowned orthopedist Anant Joshi, the report stated. Joshi has treated several famous sportspersons before, including batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

“Hi everyone, There’s an update. I picked up an injury during practice and underwent ACL surgery. The rehabilitation process has begun and I will be back soon,” the gymnast wrote on her Twiitter account.

Karmakar, who finished fourth in the Pole vault event at last year’s Rio Games, will not be able to train for at least a month. She, however, will re-join the camp by Saturday, the report added.

She was preparing for the trials of the Asian Championships scheduled to take place on April 17 and 18.
