India will face eighth seed Canada in the Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie, to be played in Canada from September 15 to 17, the International Tennis Federation announced on Tuesday.

This will be the first time that the two teams will face each other in the Davis Cup.

In the past three years, India have faced formidable teams like Serbia, Czech Republic and Spain in the play-off stage.

However, Canada will be the favourites with World No 6 Milos Raonic in their ranks. Raonic, however, has not played a Davis Cup tie since losing to Kei Nishikori in 2015.

World Group Play-off draw

Canada v India; Kazakhstan v Argentina; Colombia v Croatia; Switzerland v Belarus; Netherlands v Czech Republic; Portugal v Germany; Japan v Brazil; Hungary v Russia.
