Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra has been hospitalised with an injury to his arm after an explosion near the team’s bus in Dortmund on Tuesday, German media reported. The injury is not serious, according to reports.

The explosion occurred minutes before the start of Dortmund’s Champions League quarter-final against Monaco. The match has been postponed to Wednesday at 11.15 pm IST.

The German club confirmed the attack on its bus and said that the players are safe. Dortmund tweeted, “A bomb exploded at the team bus next to the hotel. The players are safe. There is no danger at the stadium.”

German police said there were as many as “three explosions near the team bus as they left the hotel to go to the stadium”, reported The Associated Press. “According to current knowledge the windows of the bus (whole or partial) were shattered and one person was injured,” the police said in a statement, as reported by The Guardian.

It is not clear yet whether this was a terrorist attack.

As news of the explosion reached the Westfalenstadion, where fans from both teams had already gathered, the Monaco supporters were heard chanting Dortmund’s name in support.
