Former World No 2 Petra Kvitova, who was forced to miss the start of the 2017 season after sustaining injuries in a knife attack at her home in December last year, announced on Tuesday that she has been included in the WTA player entry list for the French Open. The official players’ entry lists, both men and women, were announced on Wednesday, April 18.
Sharing the update through her official Instagram page on Tuesday, Kvitova said, “My name will appear on the entry list for Roland Garros tomorrow because, as the entry deadline approached, I had made good progress in my recovery process and I want to give myself every last opportunity to be able to compete at one of my favourite events.”
Kvitova’s name being included in the list, however, doesn’t confirm the Czech’s participation in the second Major of the season. Pointing out this aspect as well, Kvitova went on add in her update, “This unfortunately does not mean necessarily that I will be ready to play in Paris, but that I’m doing everything possible to give myself the chance and keep a positive mindset.”
The two-time former Wimbledon champion, who had to have surgery for the injuries she had sustained to her left hand, was initially ruled out of the Tour for six months. The 27-year-old has been sharing the status of her recuperation through her official social media channels at regular intervals since then.
