Through India’s four-match series against Australia, a number of India’s cricketers have emerged with injuries. While the likes of Virat Kohli turned to rehabilitation immediately, there others who chose to play through the pain. Opening batsman claimed that played through the entire home season with a broken wrist, The New Indian Express reported.

“I don’t want to get too much into the status of the injury but I was playing with a fractured wrist,” Vijay said.

“It was a difficult situation to be in, but the team always comes first... I was not able to bat freely because, as the injury aggravated, I couldn’t play certain shots and when I went out to bat, I had to grind it out. Especially against pacers, it was difficult at times to even defend off the front foot because it was my bottom hand that was injured.”

Vijay has skipped the ongoing 2017 Indian Premier League edition to recover from shoulder and wrist injuries. He is still recovering from injury after undergoing surgery to his wrist in London.

India’s casualty list includes KL Rahul, who suffered a shoulder injury along with skipper Kohli. Rohit Sharma’s shoulder injury kept him out of the England and Australia Tests. Pacer Mohammed Shami (knee injury) too, missed much of the season. Vijay’s Tamil Nadu teammate Ravichandran Ashwin (sports hernia) also opted out of IPL 10.

Vijay scored 771 runs at an average of 36.71 from 12 games during India’s home Test season. He missed only one game during the long season, sitting out of India’s second Test against Australia in Bengaluru.
