Buoyed by a blazing 63-ball 143-run stand between Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant, Delhi Daredevils made short work of a challenging target of 209 against Gujarat Lions in Delhi on Thursday, skipping home by seven wickets and in just 17.3 overs. Targets as big as this are not chased down everyday in the IPL and Delhi set a whole new bunch of records:

  • Delhi Daredevils completed their chase of 209 in just 17.3 overs, which is now the fastest 200+ chase in the history of Twenty20 cricket.
  • It is also the second-highest chase in the history of the IPL after Rajasthan Royals’s 217/7 against Deccan Chargers in 2008.
  • It was also the highest target chased by Delhi in the IPL and a whole lot of other significant firsts.
  • A total of 31 sixes were hit at the Kotla on Thursday, the most in an IPL match.
  • Sanju Samson had no fours and seven sixes in his 31-ball 61. Only one other time has seven sixes been hit without a boundary in the IPL and that was by Nitish Rana this season.
  • Rishabh Pant’s 97 is the second-highest score by a batsman before they have turned 20, in the IPL. His humongous strike-rate of 225.58 was also the the second highest in a 90+ score this season
