The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Sunday, announced that their team will participate in the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be in England from June 1.
The decision was made after a Special General Meeting featuring senior administrators from the board in New Delhi. The BCCI also authorised the acting secretary of the board to continue negotiations with the International Cricket Council while keeping its legal options open, stated a press release.
The board had reportedly considered pulling out of the event, which will feature seven other Test playing nations, after their revenue sharing proposal was rejected by the ICC.
The release also added that a selection meeting will be held on May 8 in New Delhi to pick the team that will travel to England. There have been speculations that the BCCI would send out a second-string team.
India, the defending champions are in pool B, and are clubbed with arch-rivals Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
‘N Srinivasan attends the SGM meet through skype’
Earlier, it was reported that former BCCI president N Srinivasan is attending the Special General Meeting from London via video conference, raising questions about the eligibility criteria as per the Lodha Committee diktat, reported PTI.
“Yes, Mr Srinivasan is attending the meeting via Skype from London. As per FAQs, there is no clarity if he is disqualified or not. The Supreme Court passed a judgement that he won’t be allowed to attend the ICC meeting but it was never clarified whether he is ineligible to attend the SGM,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying.
