Real Madrid are on the verge of winning their first La Liga title in five years as Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace gave them a 4-1 win over Celta Vigo on Wednesday. Ronaldo made the difference as he took his tally to 13 goals in his last eight games, with early strikes in each half.

In the process, Ronaldo notched another record, overtaking Jimmy Greaves as the highest goal scorer in Europe’s top five leagues. Greaves’ all-time record is 366 goals, Ronaldo scored his 367th and 368th league goals in Wednesday’s game. Interestingly, Ronaldo broke the record which has been standing for 46 years, in 68 games fewer than Greaves, who has played for Tottenham, AC Milan and Chelsea.

Europe’s top five leagues are the La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the Premier League. The Portuguese forward has played in the Premier League for Manchester United and now in the La Liga for Real Madrid. He has netted 284 goals in 264 matches for Real, in addition to the 84 goals in 196 matches for United. Ronaldo has also played at Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, before moving to England in 2003.

As with any Ronaldo record, social media was all praise for the star striker. Here’s a look at how Twitter reacted to the this new milestone.

This was also Ronaldo’s 200th win with Real, another minor record for the milestone man.
