India’s Yuki Bhambri lost 6-7(7), 6-7(5) in the first round of the French Open qualifier against Canada’s Peter Polansky on Tuesday. It was curtains for Ramkumar Ramanathan as well who went lost to Argentina’s Guido Pella 2-6, 1-6 in a match that saw the Indian outclassed in almost all the departments of the game. The defeats mean that no Indian will compete in the singles main draw at the French Open.

Bhambri’s clash with Polansky was a fiery affair as both players tried their best to outclass their opponent. However, it was Polansky who held his nerve towards the end as prevailed in match that saw both sets going into a tie-breaker. Bhambri and Polansky.

In the second set, Bhambri tried to stage a comeback as he converted a break in the fifth game to go up 3-2. However, the Canadian broke back in the eighth game and held his serve to grab a 5-4 lead. The set eventually went into a tie-breaker with Bhambri losing 6-7(5). Bhambri had managed to save three match points but Polansky closed the match in the fourth.

However, for Ramanathan, it was a match to forget as he was demolished 2-6, 1-6 by his Argentine opponent.
