The sale of tickets for the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches has received a lukewarm response in Goa, one of the traditional strongholds of Indian football, PTI reported.
Even as the lowest price for a ticket has been kept at Rs 48, only 200 people have bought tickets in Goa, which is less than four times the next venue tickets available at fifa.com.
Amid much fanfare, Spanish World Cup-winning captain Carles Puyol launched the ticket sales for the first-ever FIFA tournament in the sub-continent on May 16.
More than 40,000 tickets have been sold in the first phase. More than half of the inventory of tickets put up for sale in the first phase has been sold, with Kolkata and Guwahati exhausting their first phase stock completely.
Kochi is steadily making ground with more than 60 percent tickets sold.
FC Barcelona and Spain legend Puyol handed over the first ticket of the tournament to Gouri Bhaduri, the senior-most surviving relative of Mohun Bagan’s 1911 IFA Shield-winning captain Shibdas Bhaduri, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here last month.
The World Cup will be held from October 6 to 28.
