In an extremely lopsided match, India thrashed a hapless West Indies by 105 runs in the second ODI on Sunday.

Put into bat, India rode on Ajinkya Rahane’s century and a blistering 66-ball 97 from captain Virat Kohli to pile on 310 for 5. In response, the West Indies were restricted 205 for 6 to put the visitors 1-0 up in the five-match One-Day International series.

However, the most surprising part was that the West Indians did not show any intent of chasing down the target, once they found the asking rate to be too high in the final 10 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope (81) and Evin Lewis (21) had a 89-run stand for the third wicket to keep them in the hunt but once that partnership was snapped, the West Indians threw in the towel and they were happy to bat out their innings.

They neither went all out, nor came close to the target in the 43-over rain-curtailed match. This lack of competitiveness irked many on Twitter as the match became a meaningless clash with only one team really in it, while some others rued the mighty Windies of old.
