India’s Anshu won gold in the 60 kg category of the Cadet Wrestling Championships on Friday in Athens to highlight a good day for India at the tournament.

Three other Indians also won bronze in their respective categories. Simran beat Caitlyn Walker by fall to finish third in the 40 kg event while Manisha and Minakshi won bronze in the 46 kg and 52 kg events. Earlier in the day, Sonam Malik had also won gold in the 56 kg category while Neelam had won bronze in the 43 kg.

Anshu, who hails from Haryana, beat Ruike 2-0 to win in the final. The Indian woman’s contingent, with 69 points, finished second in the tally after Japan who finished first with 94 points.

“It is a proud moment for Indians girls as they have beaten Japanese wrestlers who are the best in business,” said Anshu’s coach, Pawan, to The Tribune.
