Harry Kane took centre-stage yet again in a 3-1 drubbing of Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund at Wembley stadium opening their Champions League campaign with a bang.
The 24-year-old Tottenham striker scored two goals and seems to be carrying last year’s form into Europe.
Kane’s goal-scoring habit is no fluke. His last three seasons has been one of the best runs in the Premier League’s history. He’s won the last two golden boots and was runner-up the year before. Only Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero gives him a run for his money, but even the Argentine can’t keep up.
Best played as a lone striker, Kane could become one of the league’s best if he keeps scoring the way he does. His 75 goal haul over the last three years has catapulted him ahead of other English players like Theo Walcott and Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Among all active players, he has age on his side, so he could move up this list pretty fast.
The White Hart Lane faithful will also take pleasure in where Kane stands amongst his European contemporaries.
The Englishman’s last season was an exercise in efficiency. At the league level, he was scoring nearly one goal every match. Only four players in Europe including Lionel Messi were more efficient, but all had played more matches than Kane.
His efficiency last year was particularly noteworthy compared to players in the Premier League. Majority of the regular goal scorers had played more matches. Romelu Lukaku his closest competitor had played 37 matches to score 25 goals.
