India bagged eight medals including four golds and one silver in the youth (Under-18) category of the International Women’s and Youth Boxing Tournament Balkan in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Saturday.

India had five pugilists in the finals on Saturday and barring Ankushita Boro, all others came up triumphs with a dominating performance.

Nitu began India’s march with a 5-0 win over Emi-Mari Todorova of Bulgaria in the 48-kg category. Sakshi Choudhary and Sashi Chopra registered identical victories over Italians Tessari Biancamaria and Giordana Sorrentino in the 54kg and 57kg categories respectively.

Neha Yadav then completed the gold medal tally with a hard fought 3-2 win over Juhasz Andrienne of Hungary in the 81-kg category after Boro failed to negotiate the challenge of Rebecca Nicoli of Italy in the 64-kg category.

Joy Kumari (51 kg), Sapna (75 kg) and Anupama (81 kg) won the bronze medals.

India also have two boxers in the women’s final.
