A quarter-final exit and a pullout at the China Open Superseries Premier resulted in PV Sindhu and K Srikanth both dropping one spot in the latest Badminton World Federation rankings. Saina Nehwal, however, rose one rank to break into the top 10 again.
Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, who won the China Open and had finished runner-up at the Denmark and French Superseries tournaments prior to that, displaced Sindhu from world No 2. Srikanth was pulled down by Son Wan Ho, who reached the semi-finals in China.
HS Prannoy, who could not get past the round of 16 in China, maintained his world No 10 ranking, while Sai Praneeth dropped one spot to 17th after missing the tournament with injury. Sameer Verma managed to enter the top 20 despite not playing in the main draw of a Superseries tournament since the Japan Open in September.
In men’s doubles, the pairs of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, and Manu Attri-B Sumeeth Reddy both jumped up one spot to 27th and 32nd respectively despite first-round exits in China. Women’s doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy dropped a spot to 25th after also falling at the first hurdle.
In mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy rose a spot to 16th despite not playing in China, while Ponnappa and Rankireddy jumped eight spots to 78th despite a first-round exit.
