The Nagaland women’s Under-19 cricket team created a unique and rather unwanted record when they were bowled out for just two runs by Kerala on Thursday.

Opening batter Menka was the highest scorer with one run, while a wide ball bowled by Kerala was the only other run in Nagaland’s scorecard in Group B of the Women’s Under-19 One-Day League.

This means that nine other batters were out for a duck, as Nagaland took as many as 17 overs to be bowled out for two runs.

Kerala captain Minnu Mani got the best bowling figures for her side: four overs, four maidens, four wickets, zero runs.

Kerala needed only one legal delivery to knock off the target, as Deepika Kaintura bowled a wide off the first ball, after which Ansu Raju hit her for four to end the match.

Incredibly, this wasn’t the only extremely low-scoring match of the day in this league. Over in Group A, Bengal bowled Bihar out for 21 in 13.4 overs. Bihar captan Sikha Singh was the highest scorer with 11 runs, while there were as many seven ducks. Bengal won the match by nine wickets.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India had only recently asked its state associations to amend their domestic schedule for junior and women’s cricket to accommodate teams from the North East and Bihar.
