Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has been handed a two-match suspension and fined Rs 3 lakh for his violent conduct during his side’s Indian Super League match against FC Goa last week.

Sandhu, who is also India’s No 1 goal-keeper, had shoved Goa’s Manuel Lanzarote Bruno on the head from behind after the latter had pushed him.

On Tuesday, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee said Sandhu had breached the AIFF Disciplinary Code Article 49 (misconduct against opponents or person other than match officials), based on the referee’s report.

The referee gave Gurpreet the marching orders while also awarding a penalty to FC Goa in the first half. Bengaluru FC lost the match 3-4 at the Nehru Stadium at Margao on November 30.

“Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Player (Jersey No. 1) of Bengaluru FC is fined Rs 3,00,000 and is suspended for two matches of Bengaluru FC, from the date of this decision. The amount should be deposited to All India Football Federation within 10 days from the date of communication of this decision and until such payment, the Match suspension to continue, over and above the two-match suspension,” the AIFF Disciplinary Committee report stated.
