With the 2019 World Cup in sight, the Indian team management is considering to raise the bar of the players’ fitness levels.

According to a report from the The Times of India, the minimum score for the Yo-Yo test could be raised from 16.1 to 16.5 or even 17.

“Fitness has always been one of the key aspects associated with this team,” the report quoted an unnamed source as saying. “There are discussions going on as to whether the benchmark could go a touch higher, say 16.5, to increase the fitness standards further

There has to be progression in every aspect and fitness is no different. However, nothing has been finalised,” the source added.

Yo-Yo is an endurance training exercise that involves velocity bursts, beep methods and a maximal running aerobatic fitness test. Earlier this year, Washington Sundar missed a berth in the Indian squad for failing the test.

Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, too, were reportedly excluded from the limited-overs squad for failing the test. The duo, however, cleared the test later.
